No dia 31 de janeiro, a Defensoria Pública da União (DPU) participou do evento em comemoração aos 10 anos da adoção dos Princípios e Diretrizes da Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU) promovido pelo Escritório das Nações Unidas sobre Drogas e Crime (UNODC), em Viena, Áustria.
Na ocasião, representantes de instituições públicas e não governamentais de diferentes regiões do mundo, além de organismos internacionais, debateram o tema “Aperfeiçoamento do acesso à assistência jurídica em sistemas de justiça criminal – conquistas, desafios e necessidades”.
Representando a DPU, por meio da Secretaria de Atuação no Sistema Prisional (SASP), a defensora pública federal Carolina Soares Castelliano Lucena de Castro fez uma participação por videoconferência, em que falou sobre o papel da atuação da defensoria na transformação de jurisprudência em matéria criminal.
“Entre os casos que relatamos, destacamos a atuação da DPU no Supremo Tribunal Federal no que diz respeito à possibilidade de substituição da pena em regime fechado por prisão domiciliar para quem é responsável por criança ou pessoa com deficiência”, explica a defensora.
Carolina Castelliano comenta ainda que “o espaço aberto pela UNODC para que a DPU falasse sobre seu trabalho foi de total relevância, porque tivemos a possibilidade de entrar em contato com atores dos Sistemas de Justiça de outros países, trocando experiências e informações, o que contribui para a atuação da própria DPU a partir de casos de sucesso relatados”.
A reunião teve como objetivo destacar a importância estratégica do acesso igualitário à justiça criminal para o desenvolvimento sustentável e para a criação de sociedades pacíficas e prósperas, especialmente para grupos vulneráveis.
